#8001) Ninja Star
Item Description: Ninja Star- This throwing star might be useful someday.
Overall Description: The Ninja Star is an item you can receive by completing
mission #1006. Remember that you cannot leave the village and return later.
Once you step outside the gates your access to this item vanishes. You will
be forced to create a new profile if you have not followed my guide thus far.
Anyhow, the event that takes place just prior to Shujinko receiving this item
is as follows: "Thanks for waking me up. Take this Ninja Star I found."
Theories: There have been a few theories offered regarding this item. I will
cover each below.
Karasu theory: It is interesting to note that Karasu seems to be the only
'ninja' mentioned at all. He may be looking for this item and it is quite
possible that he will only appear at a certain time. The description of the
Ninja Star itself seems to hint at this. "Someday" seems to be referring a
day far in the future. Then again, many years have passed when Shujinko first
arrives in Outworld.
Noob Saibot theory: Noob Saibot uses throwing stars in his fatality, special
move, and hara-kiri, so it is certainly plausable that he could be involved
with this item. However, Noob Saibot is one of the few playable characters
not involved with any side missions other than fighting. This means you can
never approach him to offer the item. Perhaps Noob Saibot can indeed be
spoken with at some point?
Village theory: The sleeping boy found this star, so it must have been found
somewhere within the village. He is obviously too inexperienced to be let
outside the gates, thus someone in the village or visiting the village must
have lost this item. It is of interest to note that on one of the village
loading screens Shujinko seems to be being watched by a human figure, as you
can see a shadow being cast upon the dojo wall in this screen. Could this be
a possible clue?
Note from Fight Night: It seems the Ninja Star is truly nothing. This was
stated by MK team member John Vogel.
#8002) Temple in the Village
Description: This location is within the Earthrealm village. If Shujinko
departs from this area he will never be allowed re-entry. The coordinates are
C-3. You will find a regular guard standing in front of the main gate, and
two monks standing on either side of the stairs. Attempting to enter will
cause the message, "Only monks allowed in temple." to appear.
Notes: There have been few theories regarding this place, as it seems
impossible to gain entry. However, I am a firm believer that something with a
direct clue must have more meaning than this. I will list a few notes
regarding this mysterious place.
Man beside park entrance: Go to A-6. Here you will find a man with a red-bead
necklace standing with his arms folded. He will be standing beside the park's
gate to the right side during daylight hours. This is the spot where you can
first learn of the temple in this village. I will quote what he tells
Man: "Hello, how are you? We have a temple here in the village. When you
have proven yourself to us you will be allowed to enter."
Shujinko: "How do I prove myself?"
Man: "You must speak with the guards by the temple gate."
Shujinko: "OK, I will speak with them. Goodbye."
The guards: The question is this: What does this man classify as "guards"?
The monks? That would seem to be the obvious case, but there is an older man
guards the circular entrance as well. The use of the plural of guards seems to
indicate he is referring to the monks, but I will list what each says:
Man guarding circular entrance: This area is restricted. You do not have
authorization to enter.
Simply pass by the man or shove him out of your way and you will be able to
enter. Here is what the monks have to say:
Monk on left of the entrance: I hear the Lin Kuei ninja clan are recruting
Monk on left of the entrance: (Speak to him again) Have you heard of the Red
Dragon? They are a mysterious clan of warriors.
Monk on right of the entrance: There are rumours that people have seen a
spirit near the gate
Monk on right of the entrance: (Speak to him again) Shang Tsung must be
defeated if Earthrealm is to be saved.
You may need to speak with the guards more than twice to trigger these lines.
Sadly, they seem to offer you no help in entering this temple as the man had
Indentation: If you look on the temple's right side you will find what looks
to be a perfect sized indentation for a door. It sits directly behind a chest
so you cannot directly approach it. Is it possible you can eventually find a
side entry to the temple?
#8003) Netherrealm Key
Item Description: Key found on a dead body in the Netherrealm.
Overall Description: This key deserves its own section since it does not have
a known use. Nothing is known about this item, as it has not been reported to
open any previously locked location. There is a single locked building in the
Netherrealm, however it remains locked even with possession of this key.
Description: The term 'Kochal' appears a few times during Konquest mode, only
in the Netherrealm. One theory suggests the name was born from the fusion of
the words "Koin" and "Challenge", using the 'Ko' and 'Chal' respectively.
However, Kochal is much more than just the name of this portal.
Quotes: These quotes are taken from the oni of the Netherrealm. Their speech
is random so simply speak to many oni to eventually receive these replies:
Quote 1: "When a sorcerer from another realm has need of a demon or oni, the
three-headed god Kochal transports us there."
This proves that it is an actual being. It is a god, and clearly has some sort
of conscience. If it did not have intelligence, it would not know when to open
the portal. The portal itself is a reference to missions #3016, #3017, and
#3018. The portal will appear after completing the listed missions.
Quote 2: "RrrrRRrAAAHHH!!! Kochal will hear of this!" (Note: you must punch an
oni without knowing him out before this can be triggered. Speak to the oni
after he has recovered.)
This further proves Kochal has intelligence, seeing as how he can actually
Three skulls: Behind the area where missions #3016, #3017, and #3018 take
place, three large skull statues are visible. This is likely a shrine to the
actual god, or is the front of Kochal's actual residence. These structures
spew lava into the lake below them.
Description: This quote is taken from one of the Tarkata; your best chance of
hearing this is during your first visit to Outworld where the horde is
surrounding Lei Chen. Later, you will find a smaller number of Tarkata in
Baraka's camp. Here is the quote itself: "The ninja Karasu does not frequent
Karasu description: So, who exactly is this 'Karasu'? Simple, he is a character
created by Midway Games that appeared in an arcade game known as "The Grid"
along with several Mortal Kombat characters. Is this simply a Midway inside
joke or something more? Only time will tell, but there is a small chance that
Karasu could be connected to the Ninja Star in some way.
#8006) Raiden's Staff
Item description: The weapon of a thunder god.
Description: This item can be obtained by completing missions #2022, #2023,
#2024, and #2025. Kai rewards you this item and asks that you return it to
Kung Lao. Once you have done so, Kung Lao will not take this from you.
Instead, he suggests that you use it to exact revenge on Shao Kahn for the
White Lotus and Shaolin. He tells Shujinko to "use this to strike back
against Shao Kahn."
Theories: There are few theories regarding this odd item. Punching Shao Kahn
in Outworld has no abnormal effect, nor does speaking to him. Speaking to
Raiden in Orderrealm or Outworld also seems to have no effect on this item.
Fujin Theory: After returning his book to him, Fujin claims that he will see
you in Earthrealm. At this time, no one has sighted the God of Wind in this
realm. Since he is a god as well, there's a small chance he could be
involved with this.
#8007) Coloured Keys
Hut Key: This key will open an old woman's hut.
Mysterious Key: It is unknown what this key will unlock.
Key: Key found in the park.
Parent's Hut Key: This key will open a previously locked
Key: Key found on a dead body in the Netherrealm.
Description: It is a popular myth that these keys mean something as a
combined whole. The keys are each a different colour, and seem to correspond
with the koin types.
Koin to Key:
Gold = Hut Key
Platinum = Mysterious Key
Sapphire = Key (park)
Ruby = Parent's Hut Key
Onyx = Key (Netherrealm)
Jade = Unknown
The obvious puzzle to this mystery is the location of this "Jade Key", or if
there is such an item. Four of these keys are located within the Earthrealm
village, and you cannot obtain them once you leave this location. However,
each of those keys do have purposes inside the village, and that does include
the Mysterious Key as well.
